Pit type weighbridges sit flush with the road surface. Trucks move on and off the platform without climbing a ramp. This layout works well when space is limited and traffic must flow continuously in both directions. Pit type installations require excavation, drainage, and a robust foundation. They are the preferred choice for permanent high-volume sites where civil work is already planned.
Pitless weighbridges are surface-mounted structures with approach ramps. They need less excavation and can be installed faster when ground conditions or budgets do not allow deep civil work. Pitless platforms are also easier to relocate if the site layout changes. The trade-off is longer approach ramps and slightly higher deck height, which must be considered for low-clearance vehicles.
